The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed in a statement on Monday, April 6, 2026, that its intelligence chief, Major General Sayyed Majid Khademi, was killed in a joint U.S.-Israeli strike.
According to Al Jazeera, the IRGC condemned the operation as a "cowardly terrorist attack" by "American-Zionist enemies." While the exact location and nature of the dawn strike remain undisclosed, Khademi's death marks a significant blow to Iran's military leadership; he had taken over the role in June 2025 after previously leading the IRGC’s Intelligence Protection Organization.
This high-profile assassination is expected to drastically escalate already soaring tensions in the Middle East and may trigger a direct retaliatory response from Tehran.
