AL’s Nuruddin Chowdhury wins Laxmipur-2 by-polls

Nuruddin bagged 1,22,557 votes, while his closest rival, Jatiya Party candidate Sheikh Mohammad Fayez Ullah, secured 1,868 votes

Awami League candidate Nuruddin Chowdhury won the by-polls in Laxmipur-2, the constituency formerly held by Mohammad Shahid Islam, alias Papul.

The voting began at 8:00 am and ended 4:00 pm on Monday.

Nuruddin bagged 1,22,557 votes, while his closest rival, Jatiya Party candidate Sheikh Mohammad Fayez Ullah, secured 1,868 votes, according to Returning Officer Dulal Talukdar.

The constituency fell vacant on February 22, when Papul was convicted in a human trafficking case in Kuwait and sentenced to four-years in prison by a Kuwait court.
