Prime Minister Tarique Rahman addressed the Police Week parade at Rajarbagh Police Lines on Sunday, May 10, 2026, urging the force to take a new oath to protect the nation's independence.

He emphasized that no fascist or autocratic regime should ever be allowed to use the police against the people again. Highlighting the historical significance of Rajarbagh from 1971 and the spirit of the 2024 student-led uprising, the Prime Minister praised the police for their role in ensuring a fair election last February.

He underscored that the primary responsibility of the police now is to ensure national security and public safety, calling on them to mirror their international success in UN missions within the country as well.
