House rent allowance for MPO teachers raised to 15pc, gazette soon
This increment will be given to teachers and staff in two phases
The interim government has decided to increase the house rent allowance for the teachers and employees of MPO-listed (Monthly Pay Order) non-government educational institutions by 15% of their basic salary.
This 15% increment will be given to teachers and staff in two phases.
“This moment is truly historic for the education sector. For MPO-listed teachers and staff, a 7.5% house rent allowance (minimum Tk2,000) will come into effect from 1 November this year, and another 7.5% will be implemented from July 2026, totaling a 15% increase,” according to a notification issued on Tuesday (21 October) after being signed by Khalid Mahmud, the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Education.
The Ministry of Finance will issue a gazette notification in this regard soon.
Earlier, Education Adviser Professor Dr Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar held a meeting with the leaders of protesting teacher.
According to the meeting sources, it was decided that 7.5% would be given from 1 November, and the remaining 7.5% from 1 July, 2026, making a total of 15%.
